Critical-Care Consultation

Critical-Care Consultation

Critically ill patients may require specialized medical assessment, close monitoring and timely management. Critical-care consultation helps evaluate the severity of illness and identify the level of medical support required.

Dr. Aditya A. Phirke has experience in General Medicine and Critical Care, including ICU-based clinical experience. He provides critical-care evaluation and medical support based on the patient's clinical condition and treatment requirements.

When Critical-Care Consultation May Be Required

Critical-care assessment may be considered when a patient has a serious illness, significant clinical deterioration or requires close monitoring and medical support, including:

  • Severe infections and suspected sepsis
  • Significant respiratory or breathing problems
  • Acute deterioration of existing medical conditions
  • Altered consciousness or confusion
  • Significant blood pressure or circulatory problems
  • Serious systemic or metabolic medical conditions

Critical-Care Assessment

Assessment of a critically ill patient focuses on identifying immediate medical concerns and evaluating the function of important organ systems. The evaluation is guided by the patient's symptoms, clinical findings and overall condition.

  • Assessment of vital signs and overall clinical condition
  • Evaluation of breathing and oxygenation
  • Assessment of circulation and blood pressure
  • Evaluation of consciousness and neurological status
  • Review of appropriate laboratory and diagnostic investigations

Critically ill patients may require repeated assessment because their condition can change rapidly.

ICU-Based Medical Care

Patients with severe or unstable illness may require intensive care and continuous monitoring. Critical-care management is tailored according to the underlying illness, severity and response to treatment.

  • Close monitoring of the patient's clinical condition
  • Respiratory and oxygenation support when clinically indicated
  • Monitoring and support of circulation
  • Management of the underlying medical condition
  • Monitoring for organ dysfunction and clinical deterioration

Sepsis & Severe Infections

Severe infections can lead to systemic illness and organ dysfunction. Critical-care consultation may be required when a patient with an infection shows signs of deterioration or requires intensive monitoring.

  • Evaluation of suspected severe infections
  • Assessment for possible sepsis
  • Monitoring of vital signs and organ function
  • Appropriate investigations when clinically indicated
  • Critical-care support when required

Emergency & Life Support Preparedness

Recognition and initial management of serious medical deterioration require timely clinical response. Dr. Aditya A. Phirke is trained in BLS and ACLS, along with airway management, as part of his critical-care experience.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Airway management training
  • Experience in hospital-based critical care
  • Clinical assessment of critically ill patients

When to Seek Urgent Medical Attention

Serious medical conditions can worsen quickly. Immediate medical attention is important when symptoms indicate possible critical illness or significant clinical deterioration.

  • Severe or sudden difficulty breathing
  • Severe or persistent chest pain
  • Loss of consciousness or significant drowsiness
  • New confusion or altered mental status
  • Rapid deterioration in overall health

Patients with severe or rapidly worsening symptoms should seek emergency medical care without delay rather than waiting for a routine consultation.
